On August 25, the Kitsap County Board of Commissioners voted to reduce transportation impact fees for early learning facilities by 80 percent, a significant step toward making it easier to open and expand childcare facilities in our community. This represents a savings of over $100k for the average size early learning facility.

toward making it easier to open and expand childcare facilities in our community. This
represents a savings of over $100k for the average size early learning facility.
This decision follows months of work by the Kitsap Building Association with county
commissioners and Department of Community Development staff. We emphasized that
high upfront development fees can create a major barrier for childcare providers,
particularly when Kitsap County families already face limited availability and rising costs.
We appreciate the commissioners’ willingness to listen, evaluate the issue and take
meaningful action. This change demonstrates how collaboration between local
government and the building community can remove unnecessary barriers while
supporting services that Kitsap County urgently needs.
